The Forum of Slavic Cultures attended the celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of the Slovenian Alpine Museum, recipient of the Živa Award for the Best Slavic Museum 2017.

In 2017, the Slovenian Alpine Museum received the Živa Award for the Best Slavic Museum, which is conferred by the Forum of Slavic Cultures. “We are delighted that the Slovenian Alpine Museum joined the extensive network of Slavic museums under the auspices of the Živa award and that our partnership continues to grow stronger through different collaborations,” stressed Dr. Andreja Rihter, Director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures, and congratulated Irena Lačen Benedičič, acting director of the Upper Sava Valley Museum, the Slovenian Alpine Museum’s parent institution, on the jubilee.

The latter said that in the ten years of its operation the museum has become a social hub for all mountaineers and mountain lovers. It has achieved its goals and exceeded expectations, having evolved into a space that serves as an events, education and research venue for the study of mountaineering and alpinism.

The celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Slovenian Alpine Museum was attended also by Borut Pahor, the president of the Republic of Slovenia, who conferred on the museum a special appreciation award of the President of the Republic for its commitment to preserving and presenting the Slovenian cultural heritage in mountaineering and alpinism. He stressed that Slovenians’ love for the mountains is true and something that has always been part of our identity and tradition.
