Project Slavic Groves Gets Green Light
The Slavic Groves (Slovanski gaji) project and accompanying programmes bring opportunities for active participation of local communities, civil society, state institutions and the FSC. At the initial meeting of the partners in the project, the mayors and representatives of the Pomurje municipalities got to know the project and gave green light for its beginning.
Slavic Groves is an international project for the preservation and promotion of Slavic cultural heritage inspired by the primordial relationship between nature and culture. Slavic cultural and spiritual tradition is known to be closely connected to nature and seasons. The project encompasses landscape design (with iconic Slavic trees and plants), sculptures by prominent artist from 13 Slavic countries depicting motifs from Slavic mythology, and various activities (culinary, storytelling, music, readings and similar).
The opening meeting was initiated by the Slovenian writer Vlado Žabot and was attended by: Aleš Prijon, State Secretary, Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia, Stanko Ivanušič, Mayor of the Municipality of Razkrižje, Vera Markoja, Mayor of the Municipality of Črenšovci, Janko Špindler, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Ljutomer, Marko Virag, Mayor of the Municipality of Beltinci, and Vesna Ficko, representative of the Municipality of Veržej. The participants expressed their interest in the partnership and participation in the project and agreed on further steps to be taken for a successful launch of the project and its implementation. The state secretary at the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning expressed interest in the initiative and offered the Ministry’s support. The FSC has already contacted a team of experts who are willing to actively participate in the realisation of the Slavic Groves.
