Forum of Slavic Cultures presents exhibition Transformations

Organised by the International Foundation Forum of Slavic Cultures, the exhibition Transformations: FROM the Slavic Clothing Tradition TO Modern Creations will be on show at the Ljubljana City Hall until 8 March.

“Fashion is communication,” stressed Andreja Rihter, Director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures at the opening ceremony, “communication across generations, communication with each other and with the past.” The Forum of Slavic Cultures embarked on the eponymous project, which is presented in part with this exhibition, two years ago. At the first stage the project engaged five fashion designers selected by fashion expert Jožica Brodarič. The designers from five Slavic countries each presented their signature collections: Spirit by Nikolay Bozhilov from Bulgaria, Silver ring by Galina and Nikolay Biryukov from Russian Federation, Luchaneo by Serbian designer Nevena Ivanović, Retrotopia by Slovak Andrea Pojezdálová and Eggomania by Jelena Proković from Slovenia. In addition to the collections the exhibition puts the spotlight on the rich, diverse and multi-faceted traditions of the Slavic heritage that inspired the collections, and was transformed by the authors first in their sketches and subsequently also in their creations.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Mateja Demšič, Head of the Department of Culture of the City of Ljubljana, who stressed that the Forum of Slavic Cultures regularly cooperates with the City of Ljubljana and informs their premises with their projects, promoting Ljubljana through its programmes as a city of intercultural dialogue, diversity and solidarity.

The exhibition Transformations: FROM the Slavic Clothing Tradition TO Modern Creations will be on show at the Historical Atrium of the Ljubljana City Hall until 8 March 2020.
