FSC back at the Intermuseum Festival – this time online
For the third consecutive year, the Forum of Slavic Cultures joined the museum festival Intermuseum as a strategic partner. In the spirit of the new circumstances, this year’s edition took place online. Under the auspices of the FSC the Forum and its partners from different countries participated in several discussions.
In response to the current situation the exhibition stands of the XXII museum festival “Intermuseum 2020” moved online. One of the partners participating at the festival was also the FSC (FSC exhibition stand), which took part in the three-day business programme that featured more than 3,000 experts from Russia and the world.
Andreja Rihter, Director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures, and Alberto Garlandini, vice-president of the International Council of Museums ICOM, took part in the discussion on the lifting of lockdown in museums and seeking of solutions in the wake of the corona crisis. Marina Loshak, director of Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts moderated the discussion with speakers Mikhail Dedinkin, deputy head of Western European Art Department at the State Hermitage Museum, James Bradburne, director of Pinacoteca di Brera and Braidense National Library in Milan, and Edward de Lumley, director of cultural and social development at the National Monuments Centre in Paris. “Museum institutions have a unique opportunity to reinvent themselves in the changed circumstances and redefine communication and relationships with their founders,” stressed Dr. Rihter in the discussion. The participants agreed that in the new circumstances, when museums cannot yet rely on foreign visitors, they will have to focus on local and national audiences.
The FSC and partners from the Museum of Yugoslavia (Neda Knežević and Radovan Cukić), Museum of Vojvodina (Vojislav Martinov) and Memorial Museum of the Battle of Batina (Nikola Gucunj) participated in the discussion on museums that narrate the stories of WWII. The moderator was Mikhail Bryzgalov, general director of the Russian National Museum of Music and president of the Association of Music Museums and Collections of the Russian Federation. This year’s festival commemorated the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, and participating experts paid their tribute on this occasion with their presentations, their contribution to preserving the memory of the past in the present.
