FSC and ICOMAM brought professionals from 27 countries to Slovenia

In cooperation with ICOMAM, International Committee of ICOM, which brings together arms and military history museums, the Forum of Slavic Cultures hosted the international conference “War and Peace, Fear and Happiness” in Slovenia (Ljubljana, Pivka, Maribor). The conference attracted more than 70 participants from 27 countries from across the globe.

Arms and military history museum professionals meet in the framework of ICOM’s ICOMAM committee every year. This year’s conference was hosted by the International Institution Forum of Slavic Cultures in cooperation with partners from Slovenia: ICOM Slovenia, National Museum of Slovenia, Park of Military History Pivka and the Military Museum of Slovenian Armed Forces, and took place in Ljubljana, Pivka and Maribor. More than 70 participants from 27 countries attended the conference.

“As member of the ICOMAM Executive Board I am proud that this year’s conference takes place here, in Slovenia. Our theme, “War and Peace, Fear and Happiness” describes what accompanied all wars and left a mark wherever these wars took place, and the attending professionals have shed some light on these issues from the perspective of their respective countries. The lectures offered a number of new insights and served as an opportunity for experience sharing,” said Ms Andreja Rihter, Director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures and member of ICOMAM’s Executive Board at the conference.

The conference programme took place at the Park of Military History in Pivka and at the National Museum of Slovenia, but the participants also visited Ptuj, Celje and Maribor, where they were taken on a tour of the Maribor Regional Museum and the Military Museum of Slovenian Armed Forces.
