Zagreb Cathedral Reconstruction already in Progress

The new coronavirus pandemic has not spared any country in Europe. Covid-19 is spreading also in Croatia. But the disaster that occurred on March 22 brought another catastrophe – a 5.5 magnitude earthquake. Many downtown buildings, home to a number of important cultural institutions, were severely damaged.
Museums, theatres, libraries and sacral heritage are gravely affected. Cultural institutions are closed to the public, and so the estimation of damage is still in progress.
On 2 April, the reconstruction of the largest cathedral in Croatia already began, with professional public and, of course, funding bodies, joining the renovation. The highest EU institutions immediately responded to the disaster, but the reconstruction will be a long-lasting one, so we hope and urge that each and every one of us gets involved to the best of our ability in the elimination of damage. At the FSC we will follow the activities, as we wish to contribute our knowledge and connections in the region where we work.
