Olja Savičević Ivančević was born in 1974 in Split. A poet and writer, her works have been included in numerous Croatian and international anthologies of poetry and prose. Her books have been translated into more than ten languages and published across Europe and the United States. She has written columns for newspapers and online portals, and collaborates with theatres as an author of plays, songs, and adaptations (Baba Yaga Laid an Egg, The Ugly Duckling, Farewell, Cowboy, The Brave Adventures of Lapitch). Several award-winning short films (Little Darling, Seven Unanswered Calls, Cherries) have been made based on her stories. She has published poetry collections It Will Be Terrible When I Grow Up, Eternal Children, Women’s Script, Puzzlerojc, House Rules, Mamasafari (and Other Things), the short story collection To Make a Dog Laugh, and the novels Farewell, Cowboy and Singer in the Night. Her books have been translated into fourteen languages and published in fifteen countries across Europe and the U.S. She has received numerous awards and recognitions. For her short story collection To Make a Dog Laugh, she won the Prozak award and the Ranko Marinković short story prize of Večernji list, as well as the Kiklop award for the poetry collection House Rules. Her novel Farewell, Cowboy won the T-Portal Award for Best Croatian Novel in 2011, the Jure Kaštelan Award from Slobodna Dalmacija for artistic achievement, and the French Prix du Premier Roman in the international category.
