Translators of Slovenian Literature Return to Villa Zlatica

For the fifth consecutive year, Villa Zlatica hosted the opening ceremony of the 15th International Translation Seminar of Slovenian Literature, organized by the Slovenian Book Agency and the Slovenian Literary Translators’ Association, in cooperation with the Forum of Slavic Cultures, the City of Ljubljana, and the Creative Europe program.

At the opening event on August 18, Katja Stergar, director of the Slovenian Book Agency, and Andreja Rihter, director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures, welcomed the attendees. This was followed by a discussion entitled Translation Eurobarometer: City and Women, with Manca G. Renko and Vasja Bratina, moderated by Tanja Petrič.

The seminar, which took place between August 18 and 22, 2025, in Ljubljana and Maribor, was attended by 12 translators from 11 countries, half of whom translate Slovenian literature into Slavic languages.

Under the guidance of mentors, participants focused on selected excerpts from works by Selma Skenderović (In če vsi pozabijo /And If Everyone Forgets), Manca G. Renko (Živalsko mesto / Animal City), and Boris Kolar (O vinu, kozah in drugih prevarah / On Wine, Goats, and Other Deceptions). The programme also included a workshop for translators, lectures, literary discussions with authors, and meetings with Slovenian publishers.
