Prague, 16 May 2025 – After several years, the Forum of Slavic Cultures presented itself once again at the Prague Book Fair World of Book (Svět knihy). With the support of the Slovenian Book Agency, the Forum organised a meeting with the writer Suzana Tratnik, moderated by the Czech translator and Slovene studies specialist Radek Novak, as part of the fair’s programme. At the event, they recalled the author’s visit to the Prague Book Fair 20 years ago, when Slovenia was the guest of honour at the World of Book. This was one of the first international appearances of Suzana Tratnik and was dedicated to the fresh translation of her novel My Name is Damjan (Ime mi je Damjan) into Czech (translated by Alena Šamonilova).

This time, the writer also spoke about this novel, which deals with issues of identity and growing up, and is included in the 100 Slavic Novels collection and has been translated into Slovak and Serbian as part of the same project. The visitors had the opportunity to listen to a presentation and a passage from the novel The Third World (Tretji svet), translated into Czech by Petr Mainuš and published in 2013, and to hear the author talk about her activism for LGBT rights and the changes that have taken place in this field in the last twenty years.

The Director of the FSK, Andreja Rihter, welcomed the audience and spoke about the FSK’s publishing activities and the 100 Slavic Novels project, within the framework of which the 100th book – a Serbian translation of Berta Bojetu Boet’s novel Filio is not at Home (Filio ni doma) – was published last year.

The FSK also participated in the publishers’ programme of the Central and Eastern European Book Market (CEEBM) and discussed the possibility of a larger-scale presentation of the 100 Slavic Novels collection, with a larger number of guest authors. This year, Suzana Tratnik was the only Slovenian author to participate in the Prague Book Fair.
