On November 21, 2025, Ljubka’s Trail was officially opened at the cemetery church of St. Urh. The trail follows the life, artistic journey, and historical legacy of Ljubka Šorli, as well as other women writers who have left a significant mark on the Goriška region. This new, widely accessible themed cultural route is part of the extensive international network of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe. It connects communities on both sides of the border and extends all the way to Tolmin, where Ljubka Šorli was born and raised.
Matej Kovačič from the Municipality of Tolmin welcomed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of preserving literary heritage and highlighting the local community’s involvement in the project. Representing the main partner, the Forum of Slavic Cultures, Mateja Jančar presented the project in greater detail, underscoring its significance in promoting literary heritage, cross-border cooperation, and sustainable cultural tourism in the Goriška region.
The program featured performances by local musicians and theater artists. The France Bevk Youth Choir Tolmin, conducted by Barbara Kovačič and accompanied on piano by Nika Kovačič, opened the event. Patrick Quaggiato added a special musical touch with a cycle of compositions inspired by selected poems of Ljubka Šorli. The program was further enriched by a poetry recital performed by actress Arna Hadžialjević.
The grand opening in Tolmin represents another important step toward establishing a fully developed literary trail that will offer visitors a deeper, more immersive experience of the life and work of Ljubka Šorli and other women artists from the Goriška region.
The project is financed by the European Union from the GO! 2025 Small Projects Fund of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 program, managed by EZTS GO. www.ita-slo.eu; www.euro-go.eu/spf
