FSK at the ICARUS International Conference

Opatija, Croatia, 2 April 2025 – The 10th International Conference Networks and Routes of Cultural Heritage – Archives as Places of Stories and History was held in Opatija, Croatia, 25-29 March 2025, organised by ICARUS and ICARUS Croatia. At the invitation of the organisers, the conference was attended by Dr. Andreja Rihter, Director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures (FSK), which has been cooperating with ICARUS since 2016.

The cooperation between FSK and ICARUS started at the second ICARUS conference in Dubrovnik, when FSK also organised a meeting of national archives in the framework of the TOGETHER project. This was followed by presentations at the ICARUS annual conferences in 2022 in Pleternica, 2023 in Sibenik, and this year in Opatija.

In the Archives and Society module, Dr Rihter presented the PIRANOVA – International Research Centre project, which brings together training in the field of preservation and interpretation of cultural heritage. In the same panel, Europeana’s Kerstin Arnold and Sándor Biszak from ARCANUM presented their 75 million-page newspaper digitisation project.

The conference was attended by 88 experts from the fields of archives, museology, tourism and digital technologies, and featured a number of thematic panels on topics including public engagement, tourism, the importance of memory and new forms of cultural heritage management.

The cooperation between the FSK and ICARUS contributes significantly to knowledge exchange, innovative practice development and wider access to cultural heritage in the international arena.
