Festival of Slavic Literature Marks the 20th Anniversary of the Collection 100 Slavic Novels

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the collection 100 Slavic Novels and the Fifth Festival of Slavic Literature, a rich literary program will take place from April 14 to 16 in Ljubljana, Maribor, and Celje.

This anniversary edition of the festival is dedicated to two decades of the collection’s development, with special emphasis on its origins, growth, editorial vision, and contribution to the promotion and international recognition of Slavic literatures.

Over the past twenty years, the collection has established partnerships with seven publishing houses and nearly sixty translators, contributing significantly to intercultural dialogue and the circulation of literary works among Slavic languages. The festival will therefore provide an opportunity to review the project’s achievements to date and reflect on its future development and expansion.

The program will begin on Tuesday, April 14, at 12:00 noon at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana (Department of Slavic Studies), with a discussion featuring translators of Russian novels Urška Zabukovec and Lijana Dejak. The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Miha Javornik. On the same day at 6:00 p.m., a conversation with Serbian writer Dragan Velikić will take place at the Castle Café of the Maribor Library, moderated by Semir Atić.

On Wednesday, April 15, a meeting of the editorial board will be held at Villa Zlatica. From 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., discussions with participating authors will be held at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, led by Prof. Đurđa Strsoglavec. Participants include Bulgarian writer Zdravka Evtimova, Croatian author Robert Perišić, Montenegrin writer Andrej Nikolaidis, Serbian authors Dragan Velikić and Aleksandar Gatalica, and Macedonian writer Venko Andonovski.

On the final day, Thursday, April 16, at 11:30 a.m., a discussion with Monika Kompanikova and Vlado Žabot will take place at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, moderated by Ana Rakovec and Špela Sevšek Šramel. At 5:00 p.m., a conversation with Andrej Nikolaidis will be held at the University Library in Maribor, moderated by Nino Flisar, while at the same time a discussion with Robert Perišić will take place at the Central Library in Celje.

The events will highlight the importance of translation and intercultural dialogue, as well as the role of the collection 100 Slavic Novels in connecting Slavic literatures and positioning them within the broader European cultural space.

You are cordially invited.
