A fresh addition to the 100 Slavic Novels series has just arrived: the Slovenian translation of Serbian author Vida Ognjenović’s novel The House of Dead Scents, translated by award-winning translator Aleksandra Rekar, recipient of the prestegious Sovre award.

The novel follows Gedeon Volni, a collector of rare bottles and fragrances in a provincial Vojvodina town, where scents intertwine with memories, illusions, and the fragile nature of identity. With her distinctive style, Ognjenović explores belonging, solitude, and the illusions that shape human destiny.

Vida Ognjenović (b. 1941) is a celebrated Serbian theatre director, playwright, and prose writer, recipient of numerous major literary awards, with her works translated into many European languages.

The writer will be one of the main guests at this year’s Festival of Slavic Literature, which the FSK is organizing in early October.
